“Tendiendo Puentes” Building Bridges

The Italian sculptor Lorenzo Quinn has a statue in Venice with several pairs of hands reaching toward each other. They represent the union in critical times. The bridge represents the essential human values of Friendship, Wisdom, Solidarity, Faith, Hope, and Love.

It is not a coincidence that Friendship day falls on Valentines day. A day dedicated to love.

I don’t blame either side for feeling frustrated, abandoned, angry with the current circumstances. The system that has been working for a few in power and privilege positions has not worked for the rest of us and it seems to be getting worse as the world conditions become more dire.

Those in positions of power stir the pot, to divide and conquer. We lose sight of ourselves and our neighbors and get caught in the frenzee of memes, platitudes, insults, abstractions.The other side this and the other side that. The attack becomes personal and instead of focusing on the problems, issues and ideas, we attack the who, not the what.

Friendships survive and thrive because we accept the person with all their quirks, endearing and annoying behaviors. We disagree, we fight, we make up. We listen to one another, hold the space for each other when in pain and celebrate each other’s achievements and victories. We are there for each other, and we only seek what is best for the other.
