Light and Shadow

We are both Yin and Yang, our many layers hold our light and our shadow. We are advised to focus only on the light and disregard or ignore our shadow. And although in the end love trumps indifference, we have to accept both to be fully human. Music is a combination of tonalities of sound and tonalities of silence, voices speak, voices quiet in harmony creating a melody, and when combined all of us a symphony, a rhapsody of color and emotion. Noise disrupts, distorts, irritates. Disruptive noise alerts us to danger. Music facilitates flow. Contrast in a rhapsody keeps our attention. Both necessary for our evolution. Brain and heart, error and triumph, learning and mastering, selfishness and selflessness, cruelty and kindness all inhabit within ourselves. The same is true for our emotions fear and courage, anger and peace, revenge and forgiveness, negativity and positivity, ugliness and beauty, cruelty and compassion. Pessimism and optimism all have a place in our body’s chemistry, all reside in our nerve endings, our gut, our brain, our lungs, our heart. Chemistry and electricity dancing a life long dance that informs our decisions and feeds our being.

We humans are the product of the Universe that created us. If I understand Steve Hawking, the physicist, correctly, the Universe would have totally expanded if it had happened, what I call, one minute to the right of a given formula, and would have totally collapsed…
